Research continues to show the therapeutic benefits of massage. Studies may only have one person, other studies may have a 100, 1000 or more participants and range from weeks to years to obtain data to evaluate research results. The research listed below is only a small selection of research available.
Massage therapy as an effective treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome.
Abstract
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common peripheral entrapment that causes neuralgia in the median nerve distribution of the hand.
Twenty-one participants received 30 min of massage, twice a week, for six weeks.
The results demonstrated significant change in symptom severity and functional status from two weeks.
Rheumatoid arthritis in upper limbs benefits from moderate pressure massage therapy.
Abstract
Touch Research Institute in Miami, FL………Forty two adults with rheumatoid arthritis received massage in the affected arm and shoulder once a week for four weeks, by the end of the one month period the moderate pressure massage group had less pain, greater grip strength and greater range of motion in their wrist and large upper joints (elbows and shoulders).
Research is the continual process of using a variety of methods and variables to achieve desired results. Some research will not show this result. The research Art Of Body Experience has listed is not suggesting this is the best or only research available, only a sample.
